5-20-02  I acquired live tubifex worms we added them to tanks A and C.  The frogs all get very excited and ate as many worms as they could. We added them a pinch or so at a time to different corners of the tanks so some of them managed to get into the gravel before the frogs ate them. Our cory catfish seemed to like the live worms as well. It was a bit like watching the "Discovery" channel with the frogs eating live worms dangling out of their mouths wiggling.

George one our ADF's 20025-21-02 This morning we noticed some of our most recent batch of eggs that I transferred to tank E have that white milky look to them which means they won't hatch. Several eggs in both tanks A & E are still black and glossy so we'll just have to wait and see.

Additionally, all our plants seem to be doing really well.  H's plant in tank D has bloomed several times. The plants seem to be growing much more vigorously with new leaves and in some cases new baby plants. Our tanks are more mature and probably have better levels of nitrogen and carbon dioxide.

H cleaned tank D on May 7th and left water standing in a holding tank. Yesterday H noticed that there were two itty bitty minnows in the holding tank. Apparently H's white cloud minnows have been breeding. They have been left in the holding tank rather than put back in tank D where they would likely get munched by the frogs. - L

5-21-02 This morning I added an abundant amount of live tubifex worms to tank D. My what a frenzy, you would have thought they hadn't eaten in days. After the frogs had settled down, going back to some of their regular activities of swimming and pestering the cory and otocinclus, I heard this sound. It was a fairly high pitched, pulsating whine. I work with computers and have many around my desk. So I listened trying to locate the source. As I came closer to the fish tank, I recalled stories of others hearing an odd sound and then determining it was their frog singing. I noticed that all the frogs were on the floor of the tank, not making any movements that I would assume were for singing. I grew up hearing and occasionally seeing bull frogs croak in the evenings. So I was surprised to watch and see that this sound seems to emanate from the from the thinner of the 3 frogs who is sitting motionless in the center of the tank. I think it is this one because the other two very round frogs are moving, swimming or darting up for air while the sound it happening. Also noted that the 2 frogs (lighter in color) introduced into this tank earlier this week are the ones dancing around each other. I wonder if they have ever cuddled. I wonder if I will arrive to find eggs. I don't expect that we will have many, if any, survive due to the 8 minnows in the tank. - H

5-22-02 George & Jim spent most of yesterday snuggling. They didn't get much privacy as I found it amusing to show my clients the cuddling frogs. I awoke this morning to find them forging for live worms and the tank covered in lots of eggs.  I moved some by sweeping them gently up with the plant and placing it in the holding tank.  Several are still in tank A.  Probably hundreds are in the holding tank. - L
